Bridge the Gap Seminars
- Presented by State Bar of Georgia and Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Bridge the Gap is a mandatory requirement for newly admitted attorneys to the State Bar of Georgia. It is held twice a year. Marlan has made a presentation at each of the bi-annual Bridge the Gap seminars since, 1994 to the present time. He addresses the corporate section. The focus of his presentation is "Advising Your Clients Wisely so as to Avoid Unnecessary Litigation Exposure and Costs".
 
Third Annual Health Care Fraud Institute (March 2000) - Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan participated as a member of the seminar faculty. He and the other panel members presented an overview of the recent developments effecting the litigation of False Claims Act cases.
 
Fourth Annual Health Care Fraud Institute (March 2001)
- Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan participated as a member of the seminar faculty. He and the other panel members presented an overview of the recent developments effecting the litigation of False Claims Act cases. A substantial portion of Marlan's presentation dealt with the ramifications of pending cases before the United States Supreme Court on whistleblower claims.
 
Fifth Annual Health Care Fraud Institute (April 2002) - Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan participated as a member of the seminar faculty. He and the other panel members presented an overview of the recent developments effecting the litigation of False Claims Act cases. Marlan's presentation at this year's seminar focused on the basic elements of a case that must be present in order to successfully prosecute a qui tam action.
 
Sixth Annual Health Care Fraud Institute (May 2003)
- Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan participated as a member of the seminar faculty. He and the other panel members presented an overview of the recent developments effecting the litigation of False Claims Act cases. This year's presentation involved a discussion of the most recent District Court decisions impacting damages available under the False Claims Act and the impact of new case law involving the assessment of civil monetary penalties.
 
Urgent Legal Matters Seminar (September 2001) - Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan made a presentation regarding the decisions that a lawyer must make in a timely fashion before filing a claim. His presentation focused on the law with regard to the requirement that any relator be the "first to file" and that the relator be the "original source" of the disclosures made to the Government.
 
Urgent Legal Matters Seminar (September 2002) - Sponsored by the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia. Marlan's presentation focused on the recent changes in the law within the 11th Circuit that impacts the handling and prosecutions of False Claims Act cases.
 
Second Annual Conference for Qui Tam Relators Counsel (May 2002, Washington, D.C.) - Sponsored by The False Claims Act Legal Center and Taxpayers Against Fraud. At this conference, Marlan acted as moderator for a panel of qui tam and government attorneys, wherein they discussed the topic involving "Hot Issues in Health Care Fraud Enforcement".
 
Fourth Annual National Institute on the Civil False Claims Act and Qui Tam Enforcement (January 2003, Washington, D.C.) - Sponsored by the American Bar Association. Marlan's panel at this seminar was comprised of attorneys representing relators, defense counsel and government attorneys. His portion of the presentation focused on the calculation and proof of False Claims Act damages, particularly in cases where the damages are not easily ascertainable.
 
Third Annual Conference for Qui Tam Relators Counsel (June 2003, Washington, D.C.) - Sponsored by The False Claims Act Legal Center and Taxpayers Against Fraud. Marlan and another nationally-known relator's counsel, focused on a matter of key importance to the qui tam bar, "Choosing Qui Tam Cases Wisely".
